Expanding Mindfulness in Schools with Headspace
Challenge
Develop a mindfulness program for teachers to implement in their classroom, that requires little to no training or planning for teachers.
Overview
In 2021 schools prepared to welcome students and teachers back to the classroom after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. Anticipating higher needs for mental health support, schools sought programs in SEL and mindfulness to address some of these needs.
Teachers welcomed a program supporting growing mental health needs but were concerned about taking on additional planning or training to facilitate. As districts struggled with balancing the clear need for programming without overburdening teachers, Headspace saw an opportunity to help.
Outcome
As the principal designer on this project, I created a free offering from Headspace for k-12 schools. The curriculum could be divided into 5, 15, or 30-day programs depending on the school/teacher's needs.
This project needed to be executed extremely quickly, and for that reason, I decided to lean on content that Headspace already had rather than creating all the content from scratch. This allowed us to meet the timeline and keep costs low.
